To embrace the process isn’t always easy. Especially when we have our hearts set on something and we want it, “now”. However; a perspective shift can help us become more open to embracing the process, which is embracing the journey of life.
Continuing with our mini series: Breaking Down the Motto Part 2
Simply think about cooking a particular meal for the very first time and the only thing you have is the recipe. You’ve become excited about the dish, looking forward to serving the dish and ultimately enjoying what you’ve prepared.
Is it possible to take all of the ingredients, toss them together with no rhyme or reason, call it finished, and then serve it as the exquisite dish you envisioned?
No. Of course not, or at least I hope not.
To prepare this meal you’ve never prepared before you will need to review the recipe, gather the ingredients, that may also require going shopping, then prep the meal by chopping, measuring and organizing the ingredients. After which you may begin following the next steps of the recipe; what to incorporate when, and for how long the food needs to cook.
If you’ve ever toyed around in the kitchen you may have experienced a time when you’ve accidentally skipped an ingredient/step of a recipe, or took it upon yourself to eliminate an ingredient and been left with something not like what you planned to prepare.
That’s because the steps of the recipe are important. They serve a valuable purpose.
There are times when a recipe (cause I am the self-acclaimed recipe following Queen) calls for an ingredient or step that is over my head. I am completely unsure of why this is necessary for the process but I’m going to trust that it is, if I want a better chance at achieving my end goal.
Doesn’t mean it will turn out “perfect” but there’s a much better chance it will be just as good and the creator of the recipe. And let me add that the process of cooking for me, is relaxing, it’s fun, it’s creative.
This goes for our life journey as well. We have to be open to embracing the process in order to get what we desire. Fitness is a process. Unfortunately, we cannot exercise one time and suddenly see the results we dream of. Sorry, I wish that wasn’t true too. Finances, there is a process of repairing your credit, to budgeting and saving. Having a baby, a whole process. Starting a business, pursuing a passion, there will be an unavoidable process.
The more we try to rush the process, duck and dodge things throughout the process, the more we hinder our growth and our chances to be successful for the long run in that area. No shortcuts here. It is ok to seek help and guidance when necessary, but
